8 years ago, I found myself with a bachelors degree in design, finishing up Interning with designer Trent Jansen and with no idea what to do next. I ended up doing a software immersive course at General Assembly and a team product building course with Thoughtworks which sent me down the rabbit hole into the world of tech and start ups. It opened up a new world for me and was one of the best decisions of my life!
Since then Iv’e worked as a designer and developer for companies like Tiks (Leading design of the flagship Visitor management product and building custom software for companies like Foxtel, NAB, Virgin Australia and Cushman & Wakefield), Partnerize (Writing scripts and Building software integrations for The Iconic and Honey amongst others), and built some of my own projects throughout my journey… scroll down to see them all.
In 2020 I took some time off to freelance and study UX at AcademyXI. The world was rocked by Covid so I had to complete my studies remotely and I didn’t have much hope for job prospects…
Luck found me scoring a role at Reading Eggs, a company with an amazing culture and product. Hired as a UI designer initially, I now lead UX/UI across Web, Android and IOS for the B2C market and collaborate with many teams to launch amazing features and product updates that delight our users. Last year in 2023 I had the opportunity to participate in the Giants program run by BlackbirdIt opened my eyes into how the startup community across ANZ is flourishing but one thing was really hamered home.. Don’t waste time designing and perfecting a product, just build and launch.
This last lesson has rekindled a forgotten excitement inside me and I have recently been moonlighting as an indie hacker (when not wrangling my son) and have had the opportunity to take over https://texts.run/ and https://waitlist.email/ from Hayden Bleasel. I am looking forward to continue building out these products and further projects as I continue to take inspiration from makers such as Hayden, Pieter Levels and Steph Smith. I dream one day of having a company like Andrew Wilkinsons tiny.com. You can read more about anything I am building here.
As well as building products in my own time I love being able to help other on their journey, That’s why I started Almosthuman.au - A Digital Product Agency to help others design for the future. We had a great soft launch last year and got to work with some cool projects liek a biotech spinout from UTS. This year we have big things planned, more to come soon!
